“green hand”是“綠手”？這樣翻譯可就容易鬧出誤會了

先來說說這個詞的出處：

在英國，船是很重要的交通工具

日常保養(yǎng)船只時

會用綠色的油漆把船身漆上

一個不熟練的油漆工，經(jīng)常會把綠油漆沾到手上

此后，就用“green hand”來表示“新手”

也就是中文里所說的“菜鳥”

 

He is a green hand in surfing the Internet.

對于上網(wǎng)，他簡直是一竅不通。

也可以用“new”來表示“新”，不過不會說“new hand”

正確表達是：I’m new at this. 意思是在某方面是新手，還不太熟悉。


或者：

I'm new here. 我是新來的。
