Clouds rise over river mouth with rising tide;

潮生浦口云，

The trees see it ebb by the ferry side.

潮落津頭樹。

The tide is free to rise and flow;

潮本無心落又生，

So men are free to come and go.

人自來還去。

Pavilions far and nigh

今古短長亭，

Bid welcome and goodbye.

送往迎來處。

Men have grown old who come from north, south, east or west;

老盡東西南北人，

But the pavilion still sees the tide without rest.

亭下潮如故。
