The ancient residential buildings in Xidi and Hongcun are located within the Mount Huangshan Scenic Area in Yixian County, eastern Anhui Province, China. They are the two most representative ancient villages among the residential buildings in southern Anhui. Renowned worldwide for their idyllic scenery reminiscent of a paradise on earth, well-preserved village layouts, exquisitely crafted Hui-style folk houses, and rich historical and cultural connotations.

Xidi and Hongcun were inscribed on the World Heritage List in December 1999 in accordance with the selection criteria for cultural heritage.
